Dr. Blair Feltmate, Head
Blair is Head, Intact Centre on Climate Adaptation, University of Waterloo. Previous positions Blair has held include Vice President, Sustainable Development, Bank of Montreal; Director, Sustainable Development, OPG; and Partner, Sustainable Investment Group/YMG Capital Management. Blair has written textbooks on environmental science, banking and sustainable development. He is generally interviewed by the media 100-150 times per year. He Chairs the development of two adaptation Standards for the Canadian Standards Association, and he is Chair, Federal Government of Canada Expert Panel on Climate Adaptation and Resilience Results.
Cheryl Evans, Director of the Home Flood Protection Program
Cheryl has over 17 years of experience leading behavior change-focused public education projects with a focus on residential and non-residential stormwater management and residential flood risk mitigation. She currently serves as a technical committee member on CSA’s Basement Flood Protection Guideline and is a lead curriculum developer for the Ontario College’s Basement Flood Protection Assessment Training and Certification Program. She holds a B.E.S in Environment & Resource Studies from the University of Waterloo. Cheryl is responsible for the development, oversight and continuous improvement of the Home Flood Protection Program.
Natalia Moudrak, Director of the Infrastructure Adaptation Program
Natalia advances the development of guidelines and standards for building more flood-resilient communities in Canada and advocates for the preservation of natural infrastructure as a key climate change adaptation solution. Prior to joining the Intact Centre, Natalia worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers Canada, Risk Assurance Services. Natalia holds a B.A in Economics and a Masters in Urban Planning from the University of Waterloo. Natalia is a recipient of the 2018 Canada’s Clean50 Emerging Leader award. She is a member of Canadian Water and Wastewater Association climate change committee, the National Research Council’s committee on flood resilience, and represents Canada as a subject matter expert on stormwater management at the ISO international standards development committee.
Dana Decent, Manager
Dana has worked in sustainable business operations, reporting and research across corporate, government and non-profit sectors, including roles with Sun Life Financial and Green Economy Canada (formerly Sustainability CoLab). Dana manages the Intact Centre’s operational functions and leads and supports research projects. Her current research focuses on the mental health impacts of flooding.
Janet Szydlowski, Home Flood Protection Program Assistant
Janet has more than 25 years of experience in customer service as a registered insurance broker in the Waterloo Region, and over five years of experience supporting action-focused public education projects with a focus on residential and non-residential stormwater management and residential flood risk mitigation. Janet provides administrative assistance and research support for the Home Flood Protection Program.
Marina Moudrak, Senior Research Associate
Marina supports Intact Centre staff in technical research capacity on a range of projects, including flood-resilient community design, natural infrastructure valuation analysis, as well as city and provincial flood preparedness assessments. Marina co-authored Climate Change and the Preparedness of Canadian Provinces and Yukon to Limit Potential Flood Damage report published by the Intact Centre in 2016. Marina holds a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and a master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the Riga Technical University (Latvia).
Rob Leone, Home Flood Protection Program Coordinator
Rob has over eight years of experience leading action-focused public education programs with a focus on habitat restoration and residential flood risk mitigation. Rob leads the communications planning, implementation and continuous improvement for the Home Flood Protection Program in Ontario and Saskatoon.
Taylor Legere, Web Specialist and Research Assistant
Taylor is a current Arts and Business undergrad at the University of Waterloo, majoring in Peace and Conflict Studies. Taylor is working part-time with the Intact Centre, and helps to manage the website content in addition to assisting with research initiatives.
Mariam Rizvi, Website Assistant
Mariam is a third year Environment and Business student at UWaterloo, with a keen interest in fundamentals of climate change. She wants to learn more about the impacts of flooding, the risks associated with it, and potential solutions. Mariam is currently assisting with the Intact Centre’s website.
